Born in El Dorado on August 19, 1930, Bobbie was the daughter of John Richmon and Mattie Lou Harris Burns. She grew up on Mt. Holly Street and shared many stories about playing outside with her brothers and friends in the neighborhood. In 1948, she graduated from El Dorado High School and went to work at the Exchange Bank. The next year she met her handsome sweetheart William R. “Bob” Adcox, who literally swept her off her feet. They were married on August 6, 1949, which seems a perfect day now to lay her to rest by his side.
Bob and Bobbie were married for 66 years until his death on May 13, 2016. Some of her fondest memories were about traveling after his retirement, particularly enjoying the trips with their grandchildren. In 1999, Daddy had a debilitating stroke, and for the last 17 years of his life, Mother devoted herself whole-heartedly to his constant care.
A life-long resident of El Dorado, she worked at Murphy Oil Corporation for many years then later as a bookkeeper for Stage Department Store and other local businesses. She always enjoyed learning, a trait she passed on to her children and grandchildren, and took many classes at South Arkansas Community College. She also loved attending the Ladies Bible Fellowship and saved boxes of notes from her many Bible classes. She was a member of Second Baptist Church for many years and later became a member of College Avenue Church of Christ.
In addition to her husband and parents, Bobbie was preceded in death by her precious grandson William Jacob Griffin and her brothers Richard “Dick” Burns and Billy J. Burns.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Dr. Terrye Stinson (Jim) and Bonnye Griffin (Will). She dearly loved her family of grandchildren, who lovingly called her Ahbob: Brian Todd (Tanya) and their children Lilah and Jax of El Dorado; Matt Griffin (Shannon) of Farmers Branch, Texas; Dr. Tracye Todd Couture (Don) and their daughter Madeline of El Dorado; and Corinne Griffin Le Bihan (Olivier) and their children Eliott and Emile of Montpellier, France; as well as her bonus grandchildren Jeff and Jonna Stinson and their daughters Jordan and Julia of El Dorado, and Julie and Ston Battisto and their children Stefano, Stinson, Jordis, Jack and Sofie. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Mary Alice Burns and her children, John, Paul (Beth), and Laura.
Graveside services will be held at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 6, 2018, Mother and Daddy’s 69th wedding anniversary. Brother Kent Jobe will be officiating. Pallbearers will be Jim Stinson, Will Griffin, Brian Todd, Don Couture, Ston Battisto, Paul Burns, and Sid Todd.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 5, at Young’s Funeral Home in El Dorado.
The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Schonefeld, Dr. Johnnie Hinton, Mother’s special friend Marsha Jones, and the staff at South Arkansas Nephrology Associates for their diligent and loving care for so many years. We want to thank all of the kind caregivers at Timberlane Health and Rehabilitation, who tenderly cared for Mother and helped her enjoy this last year. During her last month, she was also blessed with the compassionate care of many nurses on the third floor at the Medical Center of South Arkansas and the kind-hearted caregivers from Life Touch Hospice. We will always appreciate every gentle hand that cared for our Mother and our Ahbob.
