Beverly Ann Giles Fairly of Henderson, Texas, formerly of Smackover, Arkansas and Baxter Springs, Kansas, died in Henderson at age 86 on Monday, August 04, 2014. Born in Lubbock, Texas on February 25, 1928, Beverly was the daughter of the late John Porter Giles and Mary Lida Kelly Giles. In 1946 Beverly married Julian Edward (Jeff) Fairly, a Lubbock native and Naval Aviator in World War II. After Jeff’s death in 1993, Beverly moved in with her daughter in Camden, Arkansas; and later to Henderson Texas in 2012.
Preceding Beverly in death were her parents, her husband Julian Edward (Jeff) Fairly, and her brother, Lt. Col. John Porter (Jack) Giles Jr., of Henderson, Nevada. She is survived by her three children, John Blaine Fairly and wife Joyce Carlene Fairly of Mulberry Florida; Julia Ann Dickeson and husband Gary Duane Dickeson of Overton, Texas; and Sherry Lyn Williams and husband Paul Rayburn Williams of Mountain View Arkansas; nine grandchildren, Terri Lynn Martin of Eustis, FL; Corina Michelle Ayers of Lexington Park, MD; Kelly Grace Tait of Bentonville, AR; Rachel Marie Vallery of Mountain View, AR; Jeffrey Thomas Lagios of Fayetteville, AR; Landon Chandler Dickeson of Denton, TX; and April Dawn Everett, Randa Jo Jones and Priscilla Ashley Mitchell, all of Mountain View, AR; and nineteen great-grandchildren; Justin William Jarrett, Victoria Cheyenne Schmidt, Levi Austin Vallery, Rebecca Lynn Jones, Brittany Nicole Jones, Tyler Paul Everett, Travis Allen Jones, Jewel Elizabeth Jones, Jasmine Renee Jones, Hayleigh Grace Mitchell, Katelyn Marie Mitchell, Makenzie Ann Tait, Grace Jemima Ayers, Brooklyn Grace Tunnell, Kaleb Matthew Tait, George Josiah Ayers, Isabella Faith Tunnell, John David Ayers, Chloe Beth Mitchell; and nephews John Porter Giles III and William Nesbit Giles.
Beverly was first and foremost a homemaker, raising her children in the Christian faith. A member of the First United Methodist Church of Smackover, Arkansas and a former member of First United Methodist Church of Baxter Springs, Kansas. Beverly served in various offices of the United Methodist Women from 1963 until her retirement in 1990. For years Beverly served her Lord through a telephone ministry, calling shut-ins to encourage them with her testimony, and making reminder calls to numerous class and committee members to remind them of upcoming meeting and events. Beverly was recognized for these volunteer efforts in 1981 with a service award at the Smackover First United Methodist Church.
Beverly was also a member of the Magnolia Chapter No. 158 of the Order of Eastern Star of Baxter Springs, Kansas, and was active in volunteer work from 1951-1963 through her membership in the Association of the Junior Leagues of America.
Beverly attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock Texas. She was extremely proud of her “West Texas” upbringing, and was a lifelong Texas Tech Red Raider fan.
Visitation for Beverly will be at six to eight pm on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at Young’s Funeral Home in El Dorado, Arkansas. The funeral will be held on Thursday August 7, 2014 at two pm at Smackover First United Methodist Church, in Smackover Arkansas with Rev. Leon Dixon, Rev. O.D. Turner, and Rev. Bill Odom officiating. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday at Baxter Springs Cemetery in Baxter Springs, Kansas.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church of Smackover.
