Sylvia Chiaramonte Jacobsen March 12, 1930 - May 26, 2017 El cajon - Sylvia Chiaramonte Jacobsen 3/12/1930 - 5/26/2017 El Cajon- It is with deep sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved mother. Our Mom passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Lakeview Hospice Home in La Mesa, California on May 26, 2017 with her children by her side. She was born in El Cajon, California on March 12, 1930 to Carmelo and Nickolena Chiaramonte. While growing up in El Cajon, our Mom helped her parents, along with brothers' Jack, Frank and sister Grace, maintain their produce business which endured for many, many years. She attended the local grammar school and Grossmont High School where she enjoyed lifelong friendships. Our Mother was a stay at home mom taking care of our immeasurable needs... we enjoyed years of camping trips, fishing, raising a variety of pets and hanging out at our Nana's house. She was a fantastic cook and gracious hostess for a variety of functions, in particular, our holiday get-togethers with extended family and friends. Mom enjoyed a multitude of activities such as: bowling, volley tennis and square dancing during her earlier years. She, and her friend, Alice Batty, cooked and prepared three incredible buffet meals for her daughter and two grandchildren's weddings with a professional flair. Mom and stepdad Glen helped us with varying stages of building or refurbishing our individual homes as well as creating many hand crafted items for her daughter's gift shop which they enjoyed, immensely. Mom was able to travel extensively throughout the latter part of her life with husband, Glen, (deceased) and her children. She enjoyed salmon fishing, local sports teams, touring various states as well as visiting the numerous Hawaiian Islands which she was able to visit often. She was also afforded the opportunity to meet her family in Italy whom she had never met accompanied by her good friend Peter Ferrari, who thankfully, spoke Italian. Mom got her first job outside the home in the early 1970s working for the San Diego County Sheriff's' Dept. and retired after ten years of service which she was extremely proud of. Our mom was an incredibly strong woman overcoming debilitating medical, surgical and mobility conditions as well as being brave enough to consent to hemodialysis at eighty-seven years old. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Jack Chiaramonte, Frank Chiaramonte and sister Grace Thompson. She leaves behind her daughters: Judy Vertefeuille (Brian), Janet Hart (Joe) Jeanne Jankowski of San Diego, and son, Alan, (Paula) of Washington State. She is also survived by ten grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. In addition to that, she leaves behind her dear and beloved friend, Alice Batty, who has been an integral part of our Mother's life. Viewing will be at El Cajon Mortuary on Monday June 5th, 2017 from 5 pm until 8 pm. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday June 6th 2017 at 10 am. Burial to be at El Camino Memorial Park at 12 noon.
