It is with deep sadness that the family announce the passing of Yvonne Mary Gross on November 29, 2024. Yvonne is survived by her loving husband, Matthew Gross; children, Robert, Michelle, Warren and Connie; grandchildren, Hanna, Nathan, Emily, Kian, Isaac, Anna and Jernie and her brother David Spackman.
Yvonne was born in Rochford England and immigrated to Canada when she was 10. Her family settled in Winnipeg and after completing high school she started to work for Canada Wire & Cable. She met Matthew on March 8, 1975 and married him on August 16, 1975 after a whirlwind courtship. Her honeymoon consisted of driving from Winnipeg to Calgary where her new husband had just been transferred to. She managed to get her job transferred to Calgary and continued to work until the birth of her first child in 1978. She then spent the next 20 years as a homemaker and devoted her time to raising her four children and supporting her husband. She then spent the next 10 years employed as a maintenance worker at Westview Village and thoroughly enjoyed the job.
Yvonne enjoyed the simple things in life. She looked forward to golfing and fishing more in her retirement but issues with her hips and back cut these pleasures short. She then got her own computer and became a huge fan of Farmville on Facebook, and when that was discontinued you could always find her playing a slot machine game. Yvonne’s health deteriorated over the last 3 years but she fought hard to avoid being a burden to her family as much as possible. She will be dearly missed and will live on in our memories forever.
A Celebration of Life will take place at Memories Funeral Home at 1:00 PM on Friday, December 20, 2024. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation in Yvonne's memory.
