Roger Kenneth Bruce was born October 25, 1941, on the family farm in the Likeness District east of Camrose, Alberta. He was the middle of six children born to John Magnar Bruce and Marie Sophie Havland: Marvin, twins Elmer and Eleanor, Roger, Merlin and Janet. Roger is predeceased by his parents and four of the siblings, leaving only his older brother, Marvin surviving.
Roger was raised on the farm but eventually left farming behind and joined the Toronto Dominion Bank. This was the beginning of a banking career that spanned 35 years. Roger held many positions with the bank, right from the entry level and rising to branch manager of a large branch. He retired in 1995.
He was proud of his Norwegian heritage and in his retirement, Roger joined the Torskeklubben, Scandinavian Businessmen's Club, Sons of Norway, Scandinavian Trade and Cultural Society, Scandinavian Heritage Society and Scandinavian Studies program. He was also a Zone Director for District IV with the Sons of Norway. He was part of the group that published the book Scandinavian Connections: A guide to sites in Alberta. He continued to be active in these clubs until his death.
Roger is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Sharon, son Collin and daughter-in-law Janel, son Ryan and daughter-in-law Christina, and his four grandchildren Emerson, Lucas, Liam and Isaac.
