On January 10, 2024, Mark John Zimmerman passed away with his family at his side. Born on March 20, 1949, in Pembroke, Ontario to John (Jack) Zimmerman and Alma Zimmerman (nee Wolff), he was the eldest of five brothers.
Mark’s early years were spent in Ontario and later, Alberta, when the Zimmerman family made their way west. Mark made his life in Alberta and married Donna Zimmerman (nee Stuart) in 1975.
Mark's presence was marked by his quiet, kind demeanor, sense of humour, and a contagious, full-bodied laugh that made everyone near him want to laugh too. He was methodical and practical and spent his career as a construction superintendent bringing buildings to life. He took great satisfaction in witnessing the transformation of ideas into tangible structures. He truly enjoyed spending time with family – especially his brothers, with whom he shared many cherished traditions including annual hunting trips, lively family gatherings, and yearly golf adventures.
Mark found solace in the simple joys of life. He loved lake time, whether it be fishing, swimming or reading a good book on the shore. When he was away at work, he enjoyed cooking, and when he was home, he loved home building projects. One of his greatest pleasures was spending time with his grandchildren and cheering them on while they played ringette and hockey. Abigail, Kameryn, Hunter and Hannah all brought him so much joy.
Mark passed away, with his wife Donna, and his three children, Ben (Holly), Suzie, and Karen (Steve) by his side. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Joel.
A Celebration of Mark’s Life will take place at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, 101 McLeod Avenue, Spruce Grove, AB, on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at 1pm. Reception to follow.
