January 4, 1949 - September 26, 2024
It is with great sadness we share that Kevin Barry Coyne of St. Albert passed away peacefully on September 26, 2024 surrounded by love. He leaves to mourn his devoted wife of nearly 52 years, Sharon (Dyck) and their children Catherine, Kevin (Michelle), and Tom (Nancy), and his adored grandchildren Cameron, Kian, Luke, Austen, Everett, and Audrey Coyne. Kevin also had a large extended family that he loved dearly.
Born in Edmonton, Kevin was the fourth child of Kevin and Lily (Drury) Coyne. When he was six, the family moved to Fort Smith, NWT where Kevin was surrounded by the growing Coyne family, airplanes, and youthful adventures. It was no surprise that when he finished school, he set his sights on becoming a bush pilot. During one of his training sessions in Winnipeg, he met a young student nurse in a bar and in less than a year, Kevin and Sharon were married. The early years of their marriage were filled with many moves (Calgary, Fort Smith, Medicine Hat, Edmonton, Bon Accord, and then later on, St. Albert) and the births of their three children. Kevin settled into corporate pilot life, flying for Bowes Publishing and Millar Western. A man of big dreams, Kevin delved into the entrepreneurial world with Aviator’s Airport Guide and Pickle Printing after retiring from flying. In his later years, he loved meeting his siblings for coffee, woodworking, riding his bike, and being with his grandchildren. Kevin adored the pureness of love from dogs and he loved many over his lifetime. Family, in whatever form, filled Kevin’s heart with joy.
Over the years, Kevin received exceptional and compassionate care from many health care professionals, most recently from the teams at the University of Alberta Hospital Unit 3G3, Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital Unit 4A, and Norwood Hospice Unit 42. In lieu of flowers, the family would be grateful for any donations to the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital.
A Celebration of Love for Kevin will be held on Monday, October 7 at 11:00 am, at Memories Funeral Home, 13403 St Albert Trail, Edmonton, AB.
