Namaste and Sai Ram,
It is my pleasure to say a few words at this special Celebration of Life for uncle Durga Prasad. Though I am not here in person, I am very much here in spirit. Currently I am in Puttaparthi.
I consider it a privilege knowing the Prasad family, and uncle Durga Prasad was a gem of a person. He was truly likeable, appreciated and admired by many. Majority of the Canadian Indian community knew uncle Durga Prasad since he performed priestly duties and various ritualistic ceremonies. Be it officiating a wedding ceremony, blessing a new home, performing rites when a baby is born and conducting funeral services followed by final rites after 13 days to name a few.
Uncle Durga Prasad conducted my dear mother’s funeral service and the final rites in Calgary. When I approached Uncle, if he could come to Calgary, he accepted without the slightest hesitation and Jitendra brought him to Calgary. At the time of my mother’s final rites following 13 days, I had the privilege of driving uncle to and from Calgary. We had some very good and interesting conversation in the car, mainly about Fiji in general, growing up there and the life-style in Fiji. He also spoke about his immigration to Canada much later in life and the adjustments that he and aunty Sushila had to make. He indicated that they were quite happy here and be very close to his lovely grandchildren. He spoke with so much joy and pride about all of his grandchildren and their achievements. Often his face lit up as he remembered those precious times when he and aunty Sushila spent valuable time caring for them as Jitendra had corporate obligations on numerous occasions.

I also remember visiting uncle at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital a few times with aunty Sushila. This was a few years ago. A couple of times I went to see him alone. He was always very caring and would offer me goodies eat that he had in his room. We had really nice casual chats while I wheeled him along the hallways. He was always so sincere and appreciated the visit.
We know that not all angels have wings. But they are angels all the same. And uncle Durga Prasad was one such angel. He had a very calm and serene demeanor. He had a unique way of making everyone around him feel more hopeful, happy and at peace.
Uncle, you are very much alive in our hearts and we pray for your eternal and peaceful rest in the bliss permeated arms of God.

Pandit Durga Prasad Ji was truly a blessed soul, and a gem for everyone who knew him. He was a selfless leader and always willing to help anyone without limit. In his lifetime, he had performed countless poojas, marriages, and death ceremonies for thousands of devotees. He was an educator in Fiji and in Canada, served as the Pandit of Vishnu Mandir for many decades. 

He was my Guru and our family Purohit since I was a baby and has given me knowledge I will always cherish. I still remember the doha, chaupais, and mantras he would recite in his prayers. When I became a teenager, he realized how passionate I was about Dharma and taught me many things. 

Recently, on the morning of Ganesh Chaturthi, I had a dream of him. I was sitting in Vishnu Mandir, the day was of Janmashtami nearing the appearance time of Bhagavan Krishna, and I was looking down to the ground and I see someone's feet walk in front of me. I looked up and it was Pandit Ji, in a very young healthy form. I bowed to his feet, gave him a hug, and had tears in my eyes. A few months later, I was reciting the Ramayan Katha when I learned of his passing.

He will surely attain the refuge of the holy lotus feet of Bhagavan Shri Hari 💐🙏❤️  Om Shanti Shanti Shanti 🙏

Dear Jitendra and family:
I and my family are much saddened by the passing of Shri Durga Prasad, your revered father, a member of our extended family. We all feel the pain of losing a close family member and grieve with you at this terrible loss. He conducted several spiritual ceremonies at my in-law's home, including a wedding and a post-funeral Shanti path over several days, for which we always stayed grateful to him, and admired his sense of compassion and love for others. He will always be remembered as a very knowledgeable and soft-spoken person, and we will miss him intensely.  We pray for peace to Durga Ji's soul and May the Lord give strength to the grieving family to bear this immense loss. Please accept our utmost condolences.
