David Anthony

After attending Currie High School where he very much enjoyed being a Prefect as well as his studies, he went on to obtain his Bachelor's degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering in 1972 from Heriot-Watt University. His first technical employer was Hewlett Packard. He immigrated to Ottawa, Ontario, Canada in his early twenties with his then wife, Lorna, and was henceforth a Scots Canadian. He travelled throughout the world on business and lived in multiple countries, eventually returning to Canada.

In his younger days he took his passion for playing rugby with him and played with teams in Yorkshire, Scotland and Canada. In Edinburgh he played for Currie and Heriot Watt and took his skills to the Ottawa Beavers when he immigrated. In his time in Massachusetts, USA he developed a love for NFL and Baseball, his teams being the Patriots and the Red Sox. He was incredibly knowledgeable and relished explaining their sports to Americans.

David held numerous technical, sales and marketing roles with the biggest names in computing: Hewlett Packard, Bell Canada, Digital Equipment (DEC), Data General and others. He especially enjoyed working with startup companies in Massachusetts. During one of his returns to the UK, where he met his current wife, Susan, he also added Motorola, NCR, and Sun Microsystems to his list of satisfied clients.

Throughout his time in Canada, and also in retirement, he had the opportunity, with his wife, Susan, to live in the mountain towns of the Rockies, Jasper, Banff and Canmore as well as Edmonton and Calgary. He even spent some time living by the ocean on Vancouver Island. Restless, as always, he found his way back to his beloved Edmonton, Alberta with the deep cold and the blue skies he loved so much.

A few years ago, during a period of medical convalescence he decided to try for the Mensa exam (a high intelligence test) and passed. He took the test the day after surgery! This speaks so much to the kind of man he was, determined, intelligent and resourceful.

He will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege and pleasure to get to know him even if it was just for a short time. He is no doubt sat somewhere, laughing, sharing knowledge, and enjoying a shot of Jack and a cold Bud watching sport.

He is survived by his adoring wife, Susan, and his loving children, his sons, Grant and James, and his daughter, Morgan (and her husband, Christopher).

A memorial service for David will be held Monday, April 3, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at Hainstock's Funeral Home & Crematorium, 9810 34th Ave, Edmonton, AB.
