Betty Ria Sparling (née Hooson) died peacefully on September 2, 2023 after a valiant battle with cancer.
A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Betty leaves a legacy of people whose lives she touched deeply. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Joe. Her sons, Mike, Chris, Steven & Scott their spouses Alexandra, Natasha, Andrew & Jennifer and her grandchildren Greg, Kaylee, Tasia, Nicole, Cameron and Claire. She is survived by her siblings Bill, Trudie, Peter and Jack.
Betty began her career in teaching where she touched the lives of many students. An active member of St. Augustine Parish, Betty was always at the heart of volunteering and social action. She was a proud and active member of G.A.N.G., Grandmothers of Alberta for a New Generation, standing in solidarity with African grandmothers. Betty was always a friend, and lived by the personal philosophy “what can I do to help?” While her natural ability to support others has now come to an end, her generosity of spirit will live on through all those whose lives she touched.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at 1:00 pm at St. Augustine Anglican Church, 6110 Fulton Road N.W. Edmonton Alberta T6A 3T3.
