Barry was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta. As a second generation Chinese Canadian, he was proud of his Chinese heritage and his family’s history as innovative and resilient immigrants. Barry had a long career as an accountant (CPA, CGA) who had a passion for numbers. He was proud to have worked for 38 years in a public practice accounting firm (Donald FM Mah Professional Corporation, now Mah LLP). Although he officially retired in 2018, he was always busy during tax time, advising friends and family.
Barry was humbly generous and gracious with his time. He did not need accolades or recognition. He was a proud Charter member of the Edmonton Chinese Lions Club and the Director of the Make a Dream Come True (Lions) Society. He was content to be himself and was a steady, calm presence amongst family and friends. In the last ten years, he welcomed step-children and step-grandchildren into his life with open arms. Grandpa Barry, affectionately called “G. Barry”, was universally adored by all.
At Barry’s request, he was remembered in a private service. Special thanks to the staff at Grey Nuns Palliative Tertiary Care Unit 43 for their compassion, kindness, and care.
