He was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on October 15, 1965 to Lloyd and Judith (Ethington) Eck. Scott lived in Edmond, Oklahoma, graduating from Edmond Memorial High School in 1983. He lettered in varsity wrestling and was also listed in the National Who’s Who Among American High School Students. Scott attended college in California and UCO in Edmond. In 1988, during his senior year of college, at the age of 22, Scott was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. It was a long battle known by his family and close friends. Before his illness he loved traveling to Old Mexico, family vacations at South Padre Island, skydiving, snow skiing, riding his motorcycle, Taekwondo, fixing up houses to sell and spending time with his family. His pride and joy, and biggest accomplishment, was purchasing his home. It was a perfect location and a source of great comfort.
He is survived by his mother, Judith Soule of Edmond; Three sister, Deborah Ortiz (Andy), of Tempe, Arizona, Linda Bishop (Bob) of Chesterfield, Virginia, Paula Kirkpatrick (Ed), of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Stepmom, Vangie Eck; Nephews and nieces, David Meek, Tony Meek, Christina Clausen (Jayson), Alexandra Ortiz, Adam, Stephanie Benson, Becky Blanco (Oscar), Brent Bradley (Ana); Great nephews and nieces, Christian Meek, Riley Mae, Tillman Clausen, Abel, Lenora, Faith Benson, Lily White, Rosie Blanco, and Leah Bradley.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd Eck of Edmond and stepdad, Donald Soule.
The family asks that you think of Scott not in his dark moments but as a light that was bright and extinguished by a terrible disease. May his life enlighten and inspire an awareness of the need to understand mental illness and to consider the mental health of loved ones, friends and family, especially in these uncertain times. The strength and courage Scott displayed in his fight against mental illness was remarkable. Though the voice is quiet, the spirit echoes still. All too often the process of staying alive destroys the process of being alive. We will forever love and miss you.
