Phyllis graduated from Sentinel Oklahoma and lived in Wichita and Liberal Kansas and in Florida. She moved back to Oklahoma in 1979. She loved gardening, arts and crafts, but most of all her family. Phyllis raised five children and started and ran many retail businesses. Her perfect day was gardening on a sunny day in her big backyard. Her favorite color was red, and she loved red flowers, clothes, home décor, and Christmas Decorations. Phyllis was a former member of the Edmond Iris and Garden Society and St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Edmond.
Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents Claude Lester Owen and Lois Jean Goodwin and her sister Shirley Owen.
Phyllis is survived by her husband of 41 years Thomas Bates, children Claudette Skinner and husband John of Flower Mound, TX, Connie Scott of Edmond, OK, Jeff Podyma and wife Laura of Bedford, VA, Cindy Coulson and husband Mike of Edmond. OK and Juliet Kaarbo and husband Ryan Beasley of Buckhaven, Scotland. She is also survived by her sister Linda Fisher of Edmond, OK, 11 grandchildren, William, Chris, Summer, John Owen, Matthew, Trevor, Trent, Isaac, Eli, Ellie, and Quinn, and 4 great-grandchildren, Eric, Johnny Lee, Layla, and Lincoln.
