Nancy Carole Patton, 83, of Edmond, Oklahoma passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2022. Nancy was born in Maud, Oklahoma on August 31, 1938 to parents Elmer and Edwina Pumphrey. She went on to attend and graduate from Capitol Hill High School. Following her high school years she met Russell Ike Patton, Sr. and the two were happily married on June 5, 1959.
In her earlier years Nancy had a career as a mechanical draftsman. Following this she was a glass and glazing estimator for Glascon Inc., where she retired in 2011.
She had a passion for baking with her specialty being cream pies for which she won a State Fair Pie Contest. She would make pies and cookies for the Boys Ranch Town in Edmond, where her daughter Jennifer and grandson RJ are staff members. She also greatly enjoyed gardening, sewing, and spending time with her family. Her family enjoyed helping her in her garden and would sell the excess produce at a vegetable stand her son Rusty ran.
She loved to play dominos and cards, her favorite card game being Liverpool Rummy. Nancy was known for being a mathematician, her family recalling that where most people used a calculator she would figure it in her head. She was a lifetime member of the Oklahoma Quarter Horse Association and hugely supported the organization as a fundraiser.
Nancy was full of grace, mercy, love, and forgiveness. She loved her children and grandchildren to the moon and back. She was very proud of her family and taught biblical truths. She was a huge supporter of her kid's passions, helping when they got involved in FFA as well as assisting with the PTA and the FFA Parents Club. Her children recall she would even go without things for herself to ensure they had all they wanted and needed. She was proud of her children's successes and families, and she instilled in them a work ethic that was beyond compare.
A tribute written by her daughter Debbie Shelton on Mother's Day 2022:
"As we all celebrate our mothers today I would like to say a few ways I’m celebrating my mother’s life today. She loved unconditionally and taught all 4 kids to do the same and reach for the stars in our dreams. She always told me to make a difference wherever I am. She taught me to sew and cross-stitch, can and make yummy jellies, how to make my a meringue to die for, to name a few.
Thank you mothers out there for the support they give their children to learn how to live our lives to the fullest. We celebrate our mothers because they do all they can to help us succeed in college. All of these things and more are ways I will be celebrating my mother this Mother’s Day and every day to come.
Mom was so strong. I believed she would be living forever because she was invincible. She went to Heaven on May 4, 2022. She is pain free and can see the beautiful things in Heaven!! It’s unreal to my mind and heart. Right now I feel like I should call her and ask how her day went. How is Radar, her steadfast loving dog? We talked so much. I will miss our conversations. I do feel God telling me to, ”Be still and know that I am God.”
I will be leaning on Him and those of you who have been in my place and can help me walk the path forward."
