Lenora Helen Nunley, aged 66, passed on November 5, 2024, from kidney failure. Lenora was an animal lover in the truest sense of the term. She always had pets around her, usually two or three at a time, and she treated them as her children.
Lenora was born on April 29, 1958, in Sheridan, Wyoming. She was adopted by Charles and Merlie Nunley who took her to their homestead in Powell, Wyoming. It was here that she would begin her love of animals, often following her father as he looked after the sheep.
Her family left Wyoming when she was four years old. They stopped in Illinois and Missouri before finally settling at Edmond, Oklahoma, where she would spend the rest of her life. She graduated from Edmond Memorial High School and attended UCO. At UCO, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work in 1980.
Following her graduation, she went to work for OSBI as a criminal analyst. She helped to start the SCARS program (which provides educational opportunities, therapy, and clinical treatment programs to offenders and victims who suffer from the effects of trauma, substance abuse, mental illness or criminal behavior). Lenora was very proud of her work at OSBI and had several interesting stories of her time there. She left the OSBI after eight years and went to work as a social worker for DHS. She would retire from this job in 2001.
When she had free time, she loved to travel. She went to Europe several times, as well as travelling to the Middle East and Africa. But her favorite trips were those where she could go horseback riding in the mountains. She often talked of her trip to Heart Mountain in Wyoming with family members as one of the best times of her life.
Lenora was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Merlie Nunley. She is survived by her brother, Charles.
Her memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at 10:00 am at Baggerly Funeral home at 930 South Broadway in Edmond, Oklahoma.
