Charles Norman McDonald was the cherished and only child of Fred Anthony McDonald and Ersel Radiance Bishop McDonald. He was born July 21, 1937 in Kingfisher, Oklahoma, and died at home November 9, 2023. Charles attended Kingfisher Highschool, where he was active in concert band and played “end” for the Yellowjacket football team. Following highschool, he attended the University of Oklahoma graduating with a Bachelor’s of Science in Geology in 1960.
Charles’ life was intertwined with a life long love story, meeting his true love, Janet Joyce Johnson, during his early school years. The couple began “going steady” when they were 15 years old and went on to be married on September 6, 1958. Theirs was a marriage of dedication, commitment and trust that lasted for 65 years.
Charles had a long and distinguished career as an insurance claims manager, culminating in a well deserved retirement in 2001. His commitment and contribution to the industry left a lasting impact.
Charles’s passion for music was evident in the many years spent as a bass singer in both the church choir at Southern Hills Christian Church and the OK Corral Barbershop Chorus. His deep and melodious voice and dedication to music brought joy to those with whom he sang.
Charles was an avid supporter of his favorite football team, the OU Sooners. He spent many years as a season ticket holder and later, watching games every Saturday with special friends.
Charles is survived by his loving wife, Janet, his constant companion. He leaves behind a legacy of his three children: Kathy McDonald Moody and her husband, Greg, of Yukon; Steve McDonald of Oklahoma City; and Kelly McDonald Walls and her husband Joe, of Edmond. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren and two great grandchildren: Brad Davenport and his wife Emily and their son Lennux; Lesley Wood and her daughter Jade; Hayden Walls and Wyatt Walls.
Charles’ life was enriched by many cherished friendships. His honest and affable nature drew many close friends. His absence will leave a huge hole in all our hearts and will be felt deeply by those who were privileged to know him.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Southern Hills Christian Church weekend breakfast program.
A visitation for Charles will be held Thursday, November 16, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Baggerley Funeral Home, Edmond, OK.
A funeral service will occur Friday, November 17, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Southern Hills Christian Church (Disciples Of Christ), Edmond, OK.
