On August 9, 1929, Betty was born in Okmulgee, OK, to Russell Crawford Wells and Delores Irene (Candler) Wells. She moved to Parsons, KS, in 1934 to live with Violet Harris (Russell's sister) and her husband, Pete Harris.
Betty attended school in Parsons, graduated from Parsons High School, and then completed two years at the Community College. Betty met the love of her life, Eugene (Gene) Wesley Akins, at the Parsons Theater, where they both worked. They were married on January 6, 1950, in Bentonville, Arkansas.
Betty was a stay-at-home mom but later worked at various jobs in Independence (Bakery, Wee Discount, and her favorite career in the library at ICJC ). She also worked at Oral Roberts University when they moved to Tulsa, OK.
She loved her family, animals, sewing, reading, baking, and bowling. And Betty made the best pies! She also had the best stories of growing up in Parsons, what they did during World War II, and other tales of all the aunts and uncles.
Betty is preceded in death by her beloved husband Gene, her parents, sisters, and one grandson Aaron Wesley.
Survivors include her children: sons Mike Akins of Lawrence, KS and Charles Akins and wife Lisa of Wichita, KS; daughter Debbie Falck and husband Douglas of Edmond, OK; one grandchild, Aubrey Rose Akins of Wichita, KS; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are under the care of Baggerley Funeral Home in Edmond, OK.
Inurnment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence, KS, and will be scheduled at a later date.
