She was born in East Stroudsburg on March 26, 1920 a daughter of the late Elijah and Emily Mae (Young) Smith and resided in the Stroudsburg area all of her life. Virginia graduated from East Stroudsburg High School Class of 1938 and worked as an LPN for the former Pocono Hospital for 25 years, retiring in 1981.
Virginia was a member of the East Stroudsburg Presbyterian Church, East Stroudsburg. She was a seamstress at heart and enjoyed making clothing for her family and friends. Virginia liked to watch T.V. and loved the daytime show “Days of Our Lives”. She also liked the shows “Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy”.
Preceding her in death in addition to her parents was her loving husband Leonard Sadler, who passed away on November 16, 1989, and sisters: Mary Uhl and Emily Singer.
Surviving is a daughter: Sonia Cooke and her husband Doug of East Stroudsburg; brother: James E. Smith and his wife Joan of Stroudsburg; two granddaughters: Cheryl Vowcicefski and her husband John of Stroudsburg; and Tammy Snee of East Stroudsburg; four great-grandchildren: Rachel and John Wyatt Vowcicefski, Jamie Snee and Allison Dumas and her husband Denis. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 27 Washington Street, East Stroudsburg, with Rev. Edmund Freeborn, pastor of East Stroudsburg Presbyterian Church officiating and Rev Samuel Huffard retired pastor, co officiating. Interment will follow in Prospect Cemetery, Prospect Street, East Stroudsburg.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services.
