Stanley was born on June 5, 1923 in Brooklyn, New York to Max and Miriam (Dunitz) Kaplan. He graduated from Boys High, earned his undergraduate degree at Lafayette College, and a law degree from the University of Michigan. On February 20, 1949, he married the former Faye Silverman in New York. After 52 years of marriage, Faye passed away in September of 2001.
Stanley was owner and president of Buffalo Mills of Pen Argyl, Pennsylvania, a sweater design and manufacturing firm. He also opened several outlet stores in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, before he and Faye retired to Lake Worth, Florida.
An avid athlete, Stanley enjoyed golf, tennis, skiing, and swimming. He and Faye walked daily, a practice Stanley continued until the last weeks of his life. He was a passionate traveler and journeyed to countless locations throughout the world.
His greatest joy, however, was, in his own words, “being with my family.” His family felt the same about him and visited him frequently in Florida. In May of 2013 the family celebrated Stanley’s 90th birthday at BV Tuscany in Teaneck, New Jersey.
Stanley is survived by three children, Dr. Robert J. Kaplan of Allentown, Pennsylvania; Deborah Toussie of New York City, and Naomi Kenan of Englewood, New Jersey; eight grandchildren, and one great-grandson.
The family expresses its gratitude to the caring staffs of both Sunrise of Cresskill, and CareOne of Teaneck, both in New Jersey. The family also extends its loving thanks to Mary Osai for her devoted care of their beloved father and grandfather.
