Mary Jane Easton Walter passed away in the comfort of her home, at age 99- just a few months shy of 100, on Saturday, November 13, 2021. She was a daughter, sister, wife, mother of two, grandmother of seven, great-grandmother of four, and dear friend to all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Mary was born to John Easton and Ida Kinkead, and raised in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania. She was proud of being an eighth-generation Pennsylvanian and had a strong interest in the genealogy of both her family and that of her late husband, Roy Leslie Walter. She also lived in St. Petersburg, Florida; Phoenix, Arizona; El Segundo, California; and the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania.
Mary worked as a long-distance switchboard operator for Bell Telephone, a secretary for Aerospace Engineering, and managed an American Youth Hostel with her husband Roy in LaAnna, Pennsylvania for over 25 years, while also working at Holley Ross Pottery as a sales hostess. Meeting, visiting hostellers from all over the world was one of her favorite things.
Mary Jane was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Roy, her firstborn son, Frederick Easton Walter, and all of her brothers and sisters. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Gabi; her daughter-in-law, Robin; grandchildren, LaAnna, Ethan, Galen, Gabriel, Oliver, Suzy, and Skylar; and great-grandchildren, Brielle, Cameron, Knox, and Hazel. She called her family her greatest treasure and was treasured by all of us.
There is no service at this time, but in the spring we will gather for a celebration of life and what would have been her 100th birthday.
Arrangements are under the care of Lanterman and Allen Funeral Home. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.lantermanallenfh.com for the Walter family.
