Jim was born in East Stroudsburg on June 27, 1932 a son to the late Albert and Beulah Strouse Chase. He graduated from East Stroudsburg High School and served his country in the United States National Guard as a Sergeant for Company G. in the 109th Infantry during the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge, Jim obtained a position as a welder with the Harsco Industrial, Patterson Kelly, of East Stroudsburg where he worked his way up to an Inspector. He retired as an Inspector for Patterson Kelly after more than 30 years of service.
He was a former member of St. Matthews Roman Catholic Church, East Stroudsburg. Jim was a member of the ACME Hose Company #1 of East Stroudsburg for 59 years where he was a former volunteer fire fighter. He was a member of the volunteer fire police of Monroe County, the Pennsylvania Association of Fire Police, and the Boiler Makers Union #397 of East Stroudsburg. Jim loved to hunt fish and play golf.
Preceding him in death in addition to his parents was daughter, Lorraine Jean Chase, and sons, David Edwin Chase, James R. Chase, Jr. and Michael John Chase.
Jim is survived by his loving wife 59 years the former Carolyn (Smith) Chase of East Stroudsburg; son, Jerome Chase of Bartonsville; daughters, Nadine Sharer and her husband Gary of Stroud Township; Yvonne Owen and her husband John of Henryville; Michelle Miller and her husband Henry of East Stroudsburg; brothers, Joseph Chase and his wife Laurel of Sarasota, FL; and Charles Chase and his wife Barbara of Lakeland, FL; grandchildren, Justin, Christopher, and Ashley Sharer, Jamie Lee Chase Ace, and Kenneth and Mckayla Versty 3 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services with military honors will be held on Thursday August 9th, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. in the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, Inc. 27 Washington Street, East Stroudsburg with Rev. Dr. Edward Kimes pastor of the East Stroudsburg United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Sandhill Cemetery, Shoemakers.
A public visitation will be held on Wednesday August 8, 2012 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. and on Thursday August 9th, 2012 from 10:00 A.M. till the time of service at the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, Inc. 27 Washington Street, East Stroudsburg.
