Thomas Calvin Head, Sr., 84, of Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at his home. Tom had been a member of East Lake Baptist Church when they merged with East Ridge Baptist Church and drove the church bus for both churches. For the past several years he had been a member of Burning Bush Baptist Church.
He was a graduate of Central High School class of 1957. Tom was an avid Atlanta Braves Baseball fan, UT Vols fan and a big fan of the Andy Griffith Show. He was retired from Borg Textiles and Shaw Industries and at the time of his death was employed with Chattanooga Funeral Home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, J.D. and Jessie Varner Head and a sister, Jadena Myatt.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Nancy Head; son Thomas Calvin Head, Jr. “Tommy” and his wife Donna; daughter, Kristie Taylor and her husband John; three grandchildren, Brittany Cronnon (Adam), Jennifer Booth (Kevin) and Jonathan Taylor (Bree); nine great-grandchildren, Garrett Romans, Gracie Romans, Jada Cronnon, Harper Booth, Brody Booth, Hallie Booth, Barrett Booth, Rowan Taylor and Redding Taylor; two great-great-grandchildren, Waylon Summey and Thomas Summey; sister, Louise Daugherty; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Saturday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road with the Rev. Keith Myatt and Colin Crosen officiating. The family will receive friends from 2-8 PM Friday and from 11 AM – 1 PM Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens, South at 11 AM Monday with the Rev. Dennis McNulty officiating. Pallbearers will be Garrett Romans, Adam Cronnon, Kevin Booth, John Daugherty, Brian Myatt, Jonathan Taylor and Earl Christian. Honorary pallbearers will be current and former employees of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Kidney Foundation or to Hearth Hospice.
