Dr. Thomas H. Curtis, a local obstetrician and gynecologist, died Saturday, April 23, 2011 in a local hospital. He was 87 years old. Dr. Curtis was born and lived in Shelbyville, TN until 1941. He spent three years in the US Army in the Pacific Theater of World War II. He attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville for pre-med and UT-Memphis Medical School. He finished Medical School and post-graduate training at UT Hospitals. He began his practice in Chattanooga and Fort Oglethorpe, GA in 1952.
He was a member of the American College of OB-GYN and the American Board of OB-GYN, as well as state and local medical societies. He was of Protestant faith.
Survivors include three daughters, Nancy Shisler of Kingsport, TN, Carolyn Batten of Ooltewah, TN, and Brooke Kocher of Chattanooga, TN; two sons, Roger Curtis of Seattle, W A, and Andrew Curtis of Fort Oglethorpe, GA and sixgrandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Andrew Curtis, Jim Shisler, Bruce Batten, Ryan Kocher, Matthew Batten, Johnny Holsomback, and Tony Johnson.
Services will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road with Rev. Robby Holt officiating. Visitation will be from 5-8 PM Monday at the Funeral Home.
Entombment will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Ronald McDonald House.
