Rev. Sullins Marlin Lamb

The Reverend Lamb taught and preached the gospel of his Lord and Savior most of his life, specifically 40+ years in the Holston Conference of the United Methodist Church.

Born and raised in the St. Elmo community of Chattanooga, Sullins was part of a loving and serving family. His father Marlin, a World War I veteran, was a teacher before working for the United States Postal Service. His mother Dora was active in the nursery and children’s education at St. Elmo United Methodist Church.

Sullins attended and graduated from Chattanooga City High School, Emory & Henry College, and Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University.

It was in Dallas, TX he met the love of his life, his sweetheart Susan Smyser. They married and returned to Tennessee when they began their ministry and family.

Rev. Lamb began his pastoral career at Magnolia Avenue UMC in Knoxville then led and grew churches in Bristol, Damascus and Wise, VA; Daisy, St. Mark’s in North Chattanooga, Burk’s in Hixson, Cassidy in Kingsport, Kingston, St. Andrews in Highland Park, Chattanooga TN, Lookout Mountain and Rising Fawn, GA.

Sullins and Sue enjoyed camping, hiking and canoeing with their family and friends. He enjoyed watching sports including the SMU Mustangs football and UTC Mocs basketball programs. He and mom cheered on the Atlanta Braves as well. Sullins served on many executive boards of the Holston Conference and truly enjoyed watching and assisting Camp Lookout become the accredited camp it is today. He always enjoyed being outdoors and celebrating God’s creation.

Sullins was preceded in death by his wife, Sue, this past October, his parents and sister Dorothy.

He is survived by his children Pat (Beth) Lamb of Huntsville, AL, Lisa Nichols of Sneedville, TN, Cathy Lamb of Chattanooga, Tim Lamb of Austin, TX, and Margie Lennon of Rising Fawn, GA.; his granddaughters Caci (Jodi) Lamb of Norfolk VA, Virginia (Ali) Muir of Philadelphia, PA, Sara (Andrew) Jones of Farmville, VA, Jessica Nichols of Birmingham, AL and his great granddaughter Kiera.

Visitation will be Thursday, December 10, 4-7pm at Chattanooga Funeral Home East Chapel on Moore Road.

A graveside Service of Celebration will be held Friday, December 11, at 2:30pm at Forest Hills cemetery conducted by the Rev. Debra Dickerson and Rev. Jim Douthat.
