Melanie was born on May 1, 1953, in Bath, Maine. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold “Dave” and Ruth Clark; her brother, Raymond Clark; and her mother-in-law, Joyce Crabtree.
Melanie is survived by her husband, Greg Crabtree; her siblings, Randy Clark and Heidi Clark Eldridge; her nephews, Clark and Chandler Eldridge, and Keith Harris; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and numerous cousins throughout Maine and New Hampshire.
Melanie’s life’s work was as a court clerk at Hamilton County Criminal Court. She served the county as a bench clerk for Judge Doug Meyer and Judge Barry Steelman. Melanie mentored many clerks during her tenure. Her work ethic was impeccable as she continued to work through chemotherapy, radiation, and the fatigue that comes with it.
Melanie cherished her trips to Maine, Savannah, GA, Charleston, SC, the Florida Coast, and the San Francisco Bay Area. Although, she was born in the North, she could fry catfish and cornbread as well as any Southern girl. She had both Yankee spirit and Southern charm. Melanie was a passionate person with a heart of gold and a notorious flirt. Among her many loves, were animals, especially cats, horses and dogs. Melanie adored her family and friends. She was an avid music lover and music snob. Melanie was a voracious reader who loved mystery novels. She enjoyed old movies, British mysteries, sitcoms, game shows, and playing trivia.
A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Friday, November 4, 2022, at Chattanooga Funeral Home – East Chapel with Rev. Rachel Butler Greiner officiating. A visitation will be held from 3 to 8 pm on Thursday, November 3, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, animal shelters, Salvation Army, American Red Cross, or your choice of church/religious organizations, or health organizations with a focus on cancer or heart disease research.
