Margaret was born April 10, 1931, in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Margaret was a lifelong member of Second Presbyterian Church.
Being the matriarch of her family, her passionate and kind soul nurtured her family and friends throughout her lifetime. Her love of music and cooking enriched her life and continues to live on through her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, John T. Erwin; two brother-in-laws, Louis “Kayo” Erwin, Sr., Paul “Bean” Erwin; and a grandson, Patrick Erwin.
Left behind to cherish her memory her three children, Carol (Chris) Carden, Gary (Cheryl) Erwin, and Tim (Marlene) Erwin; three grandchildren, Chris (Paul) Smith, Katie (Wes) Thompson, and Kyli Erwin; five great-grandchildren, Alley Thomas, Layla and Margo Smith, Benjamin Thompson, and Thia Thompson; adopted daughter, Deborah White; sister-in-laws, Tommie Kaye Layman, Shirley Cofer, and Betty Scott; nephew, Kayo Erwin, Jr.; and niece, Sandy Erwin; and several close friends, Sabrina Lucas, James Daniels, Curtis (Jill) Powell, Melissa McCranie; and her best friend, Ophelia Blake.
A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at Chattanooga Funeral Home East Chapel. A Celebration of Margaret’s Life will be at 12 p.m. on Thursday, January 26, at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest in the Chattanooga National Cemetery following the service.
Pallbearers for the service will be Tim Erwin, Gary Erwin, Chris Carden, Kayo Erwin, Jr., Paul Smith, and Wes Thompson.
