He is survived by his wife, Phylliss Harris; his sons, Michael Harris and Gregory Harris; four siblings, Crawford (Sheila) Harris, Carol Capps, Debbie (Sam) Henderson, and David (Beth) Harris; a grandson, Nathaniel Issra Poupart, and a granddaughter, Savannah DeCora.
Larry was born in Chattanooga and lived most of his life in East Ridge, Tennessee, where he owned and operated Kingwood Gulf and later Kingwood Service Center on Ringgold Road. He was a graduate of Chattanooga City High School Class of 1961. He met his first wife, Margaret B. Harris at Kingwood Baptist Church, and they were long time members of South Seminole Baptist Church. Larry and Phylliss married in 1994. They loved camping and fishing, so they purchased land with a pond near Bryant, Alabama where they built a house and enjoyed a peaceful life of country living together.
Larry was an extremely generous and loving person who put the happiness of those he loved first and foremost. He faced adversities in life with valor and optimism. And he had an impeccable work ethic. He leaves behind a host of family and friends who are blessed by his gentle and humble spirit that will remain with us all.
A Celebration of Larry’s Life begins at 1 PM on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at the funeral home with Pastor Sam Henderson starting a service at 2 PM. Honorary pallbearers will be Crawford Harris, David Harris, Michael Harris, Gregory Harris, Terry Harris, and Nathaniel Poupart.
