James C. Sloan Sr.; a longtime resident of Rossville, Georgia died on June 12, 2019, after an extended illness. He was 85. He was the son of the late Jesse and Florence Sloan and was a 1952 graduate of Central High School. He attended Temple Baptist Church. Mr. Sloan signed out of high school to play baseball with the Chattanooga Lookouts. He later played fast pitch softball for the Chattanooga Gas Flames and Capital Motors Toyota. He was a member of the Chattanooga Old Timers Hall of Fame. He was a veteran and served in the United States Army. He was retired from Chattanooga Gas Company.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Joyce Robbs Sloan of Rossville, Georgia; four sons, James C. Sloan Jr. (Melissa), Cloudland, Georgia; Kenny Sloan, Ooltewah; Keith Sloan (Karen) East Ridge; and Terry Sloan (Diane) Ooltewah; five grandchildren, Nicholas, Ryan, Hayden, Kyle (Hallie) and Rachel Sloan; one great-granddaughter, Sara Sloan; step-granddaughter, Lynde (Russel) Thompson; two step-great-granddaughters, Masen and Rowan Thompson; two brothers, John “Bud” Sloan (Elaine) Rossville, Georgia and Jerry Sloan (Glenna) of Chattanooga; one sister, JoAnn Stamey (Archie) Tunnel Hill, Georgia; several nieces and nephews and cousins.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday June 16th at 6:00 p.m. with Terry Evans officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 3:00 p.m. at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home. Burial will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery on Monday June 17th at 10:30 a.m. with grandsons and nephews Ron Robbs and Jacob Sloan serving as pallbearers.
