She was born on February 25, 1931, in Gainesboro, TN, to Joe and Clara Nellie (Young) Meadows. Louise married Daniel Binder in Anderson County, Tennessee on September 15, 1956, after she graduated nursing school at Knoxville General Hospital’s School of Nursing. Dan and Louise first lived in Oak Ridge, TN, and before 1969, they moved to Palo Alto Peninsula, CA. After Dan’s retirement they moved back to Tennessee and lived in Monteagle. Louise and Dan had many friends and liked to entertain. Dan preceded her in death, and they had no children.
After her parents and her brother, John Meadows, and her sisters, Joellen Meadows and Carolyn Ann Bray, passed away, Louise became the matriarch of this line of the Meadows Family. Perhaps because she had no children of her own, she became the “Mom” to all of us. Her siblings, nieces and nephews all looked up to her for issues that would impact the family name, family heirlooms and generally keeping the family members together. Louise always had intelligent, grounded advice, and she was very good at putting a stop to disagreements. She was always forthright and stubborn to stand by her beliefs. There’s stubborn and there’s “Aunt Louise-stubborn!” We all loved her for the rock she was.
As Louise lived her final last 3-4 years, she was surrounded with love and the company of her friends and family. In 2021, she moved to an independent living community at Alexian Village on Signal Mountain, TN.
She is survived by her sister, Sue (Bob) Jones; and her nieces and nephews, John (Lisa) Meadows, Patty (Phil) Harriman, Rob (Cindy) Jones, Joe Eugene (Dana) Bray, Matthew (Tracy) Bray, and Kim (Travis) Alverson; and several great nieces and great-nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2023, in the East Chapel with Minister Joe Bray officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to services on Saturday, January 21, at the funeral home. Interment will be at Hamilton Memorial Gardens in Hixson, TN.
The family request memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Wounded Warriors or Monteagle Church of Christ.
