Hugh Allen Barnes

Mr. Barnes was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the Steve Bevil Sunday School Class. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He was an avid traveler and a die-hard UT Vols fan. He was retired from the State of Tennessee as Regional Director of the Southeast Region and previously Director of Memphis, Shelby County Health Department. Mr. Barnes was a member of Lookout Valley Lions Club, the Southern Health Association, Tennessee Public Health Association and American Public Health Association. He spent his entire career working to improve the lives and health of the people of Tennessee.

He was preceded in death by a son, Biff Hugh Barnes.

Survivors include his wife, Becky Barnes; daughter, Tracy Renee (Terry) Moore of Bartlett, TN; son, Brent Allen (Leigh) Barnes of Plano, TX; step-sons, John (Trish) Goldston and Clark Goldston, both of Chattanooga; six grandchildren, Randy Barnes, Hensley Barnes, Nick Moore, Bryan Fanney, Breely Barnes and Brittany Barnes.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM Monday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Rev. Chris Ehlers officiating. Burial will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Lookout Valley Lions Club. Active pallbearers will be Jerry Walls, Buddy Blevins, Bill Clouse, Gregg Evans, Joe Graham and Larry Walker.

The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:30 Monday at the funeral home.
