Helen Elizabeth “Lee” Rhoden, 91, of Chattanooga passed away Thursday, February 19, 2015. She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church where she sang in the choir. Mrs. Rhoden was retired from Miller Brothers Department Store and during WWII she was a singer with the USO. She was also a member of the Officers Wives Club and Gray Ladies.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Major Charles David Rhoden, Sr.; two brothers, Edward J. Bankos and Albert Bankos; four sisters, Mary Krisanda, Elizabeth Paluch, Ann Masar and Kathren Bankos.
A loving, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, she is survived by two sons, Mark Richard (Debbie) Rhoden and Charles David Rhoden, Jr.; three grandchildren, Charles D. (Natalie) Rhoden, III, Melanie Ann (Chad) Watson and Amanda Renee (Philip Hoover) Rhoden; Step-grandson, Mike Kooyman; five great-grandchildren, Emma, John David, Connor, Ethan and Carter.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Tuesday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with Father Jim Vick officiating. Burial will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4-7 PM Monday and from 10-11 AM Tuesday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road. There will be a rosary service at 6:30 PM Monday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the USO, the Humane Educational Society or to the Alzheimers Association.
