George D. Hogan

George Daniel Hogan of East Ridge, TN, Age 69, passed away on Saturday evening, April 28, 2018 at home with his wife by his side after a lengthy illness. Mr. Hogan was born on April 14, 1949 to Raymond Daniel Hogan and Gloria Ann Gaspard Hogan in Valparaiso, Florida.

Mr. Hogan served in the United States Marine Corps from April 14, 1966 to April 13, 1972. He served two tours of duty in Viet Nam with the 1st Marine Air Wing as a door gunner on 46s surviving a helicopter crash.

Mr. Hogan attained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from the University of Phoenix and was a Certified Transformational Life Coach. He served as Commanding officer of the Young Marine Unit at Parkway Middle School in Osceola County, Florida from May 2000 until August of 2006. He established the Orange County Young Marines, which is a Young Marine Program outside of the school system and served as Commanding Officer for several years. This unit is still active today as the Orlando Devil Dogs. Mr. Hogan served as Warrant Officer for the U.S. Naval Sea Cadets at Discovery Intermediate Middle School in Osceola County, Florida from August 2006 through August 2008. When he relocated to Chattanooga, Tennessee in 2009, he served as commanding officer of the Southeast Tennessee Area (SETA) Young Marine unit for a number of years.

Mr. Hogan was attached to the Chattanooga Detachment 518 of the Marine Corps League. He served Chattanooga Detachment 518 in previous positions as Secretary and Treasurer. He was also a member of the Devil Dogs attached to that unit. He was a previous member of the Orlando Marine Corps League, Orlando Devil Dogs, Veterans of Foreign War posts in Orlando, Florida and Grove City, Pennsylvania and served in various positions. He was also a member of American Legion Posts in Orlando, Florida, Grove City, Pennsylvania and Harrisville, Pennsylvania and Viet Nam Veterans of America in Orlando, Florida.

Mr. Hogan is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Virginia “Ginny” Covert Crossley Hogan; two sisters, Timothe Ann Worswick of Altamonte Springs, Florida, Susan Hogan of Palm Desert, California and one brother, Patrick Hogan of Salem, Oregon. He is also survived by a step-sister, Tacy Baker of San Bernardino, California.

Mr. Hogan is survived by his four children, Jason Hogan of Panama City, Florida, Bryan Hogan of Bradenton, Florida, Nicholas Hogan and his wife, Talitha Hogan of Calhoun, Georgia and Lauren Fields and her husband, Ryan Fields, of Palmetto, Florida. He is also survived by a step-daughter, Amber Nicole Crossley Croughn and her husband, Leo Croughn, of Casselberry, Florida. Mr. Hogan has four grandchildren, Lilleigh Hogan, Tallon Fields, Eathan Fields and Wyatt Fields. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant daughter, Jennifer Nicole Hogan.

A graveside service will be held at 2:30 PM Friday May 4th at Chattanooga National Cemetery with full Military Honors. Rev. Al Paquette will officiate the service. The family will receive friends from 1 – 2 PM Friday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road, East Ridge, TN 37404.
