Carol is survived by her husband of 54 years, Earl Louis McDowell, daughter Julie (Joseph) Smith, son Eliot (Rebekah) McDowell, grandson Evan Smith, granddaughter Melody McDowell, brothers Charles, Jim, and Bo Elliott, sister Judye Carlisle, sister Theresa Patterson, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Stancil and Louise (Pollard) Elliott, brothers Richard and Scott Elliott, and sister Marilyn Elliott Quinn.
She was born in Soddy, TN, on February 21, 1945. She graduated from Soddy Daisy High School in 1963. Carol retired from the Hamilton County Department of Education, where she devoted many years, primarily as Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent. She was a member of Jones Memorial United Methodist Church, where she served for many years as a Sunday School teacher and usher.
In all that she did, Carol was a selfless, nurturing, devoted, and loving individual throughout every aspect of her life.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM, Thursday, October 28, 2021, at Jones Memorial United Methodist Church, with the Reverend Clair Sauer officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:30-11:30 AM Thursday at the church. Burial will follow at 1:00 PM in the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Jones Memorial United Methodist Church, 4131 Ringgold Road, East Ridge, TN 37412.
