Byron H Strickland, Sr., age 82, entered heaven on November 16th with his family by his side. Byron grew up in Ridgedale and graduated from Central High School in 1959. He served in the Army National Reserves for 8 years. He retired from the City of Chattanooga spending 30 years with the Air Pollution Bureau and Moccasin Bend Wastewater Treatment Plant. He was a member of Ridgedale Baptist Church and a former 40 year member of Jones Memorial UMC. He was also a member of the Chickamauga Region Antique Car Club and Wolftever Fishing Club. His loves included Alabama Football (Roll Tide), Lionel trains, and Bluegrass/Country and Southern Gospel Music.
Byron was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Lucille Strickland, sister, Myra Strickland and cousin Laura Strickland Wilson.
He is survived by his faithful wife of 57 years, Gail McDaniel Strickland, daughter Crystal (Jeremy) Griggs, son Henry (Lisa) Strickland, and 2 grandsons Brock Griggs and Caden Strickland, and cousin Jane Strickland Shelton.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Monday, November 20, 2023 at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road with Pastor Jeremy Griggs officiating. Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens at 2 PM Monday, November 20, 2023. The family will receive friends from 2-5 PM Sunday, November 19, 2023 and from 10 AM – 11 AM Monday, November 20, 2023 at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be George Luttrell, Greg Garrison, Dan Garey, Drew Andrews, Tim Blount and Rocky Cody.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Darrell McDonald, Robert Richey, David Clark, The Seekers Sunday School Class, Chickamauga Regional Antique Auto Club, The Way Sunday School Class, Wolftever Fishing Club, Nancy Beene Nace, Libby Beene Skuban and Cecil Forehand.
