He leaves behind his loving wife of 57 years, Jenelle (Crawford) Worthington, and their four children: June Craft and spouse, Alan, of Ocean Park, WA; Jan Maes and spouse, Vernon, of Goshen, IN; Joyce Nissly and spouse, David, of Gainesville, GA; and Joseph Worthington and spouse, Michele, of Cartersville. Frank was greatly loved by his eight grandchildren, Amanda and Sara Nissly; David Craft; Ashlyn, McKenna and Kendall Maes; and Michael and Hannah Worthington. He is also survived by his brother, Robert Earl Worthington, a multitude of adoring nieces and nephews (all claiming to be his favorite), and many friends.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Pinkney Franklin Worthington and Mary Ruth Fields; a sister, Margaret Louise Worthington, and a brother, Alvin Ray Worthington.
A long-time East Point resident, Frank was born in Kingston, GA., Dec. 28, 1923 and spent most of his youth working the family farm. His life was miraculously spared at age 8, when a tornado destroyed the family home. When his father found him, smothered in a mattress that had been thrown from the house, he wasn’t breathing. Fortunately, his father was able to revive him.
Frank served in the US Army as a military policeman in New York during WW II, and worked for a mechanical contracting firm in Atlanta for more than 40 years. He was highly regarded as a master craftsman, known for his meticulous attention to detail in mechanical designs and drafting. Throughout his life, Frank was an avid gardener of both vegetables and flowers, earning East Point Yard of the Month honors three times. His yard was featured in the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
Frank's life, from childhood to adulthood, was centered around God and church. He met his wife, Jenelle, at Colonial Hills Baptist Church in East Point, where they were married and raised their children.
A private burial was held Sunday, but a Celebration of Life honoring Frank will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, at Berachah Bible Church, 310 Corinth Road, Jonesboro. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Southwest Christian Care, 7226 Lester Rd., Union City, GA 30291.
