James Wiley Smith, age 86, devoted husband, beloved father and grandfather, passed away Thursday, December 2, 2010 at his home in Atlanta, GA. He was born in Jackson County, GA to the late William Isom Smith and Emma Okelley Smith. He is preceded in death by his brother, Robert Smith; four sisters, Annie Hendrix, Mattie Lou Norris, Erline Whittington, and Mary Ruth Brock. His love of fishing, gardening, and Georgia Tech football will always be remembered by many. He was employed as a Machinist for Arrow Shirt Company; he retired in 1989, after 39 years of service. He was also a member of Perkerson Baptist Church in Atlanta. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Gwynelle E. Smith of Atlanta, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Judy Smith of McDonough, GA, son and daughter-in-law, Gerald and Wanda Smith of Douglasville, GA; grandchildren, Joshua Smith, and Jennifer Smith; sister-in-law, Louise Smith of Smyrna, GA; and numerous nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held at Perkerson Baptist Church at 2240 Springdale Rd SW Atlanta, GA 30315 on Saturday at 1:00pm. Interment will follow at Westview Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the church from 11:00am-1:00pm the morning of the service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in his honor.
