He was born to Alvin A. and Glenna F. (Sandige) Laughary on June 7, 1939 in Cuba. He married Nora E. Cowan in Champaign on May 6, 1970. She preceded him in death on March 5, 2014 in Peoria.
Bill is survived by his children, Kenneth, Lynn, and Christopher Laughary; step-children, Jeri Norvel, Deborah Lampert, Shelbie Buckner, Connie Landers, MaryAnne Rigelwood, and Orin Burgess; 18 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. Siblings include Violet Bell, Darlene Birdsong, Wanda Bastin, Marjorie Mudd, and Larry Laughary.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Gary and Robert Laughary; sister, Wilma Mudd; and grandsons, Chad McBride, Eric Rigelwood, and Christopher Burgess.
Bill worked as a truck driver for Advance Transportation and retired in 1998. He was an avid slot player at the Par-A-Dice. He loved golfing, camping, and watching Westerns. He also enjoyed putting puzzles together and collecting Hot Wheels. Bill put his wife and children on a pedestal and was a wonderful provider. His love and concern for others is something that will never be forgotten. He was a jack of all trades and could fix just about anything. He taught his wife and kids how to do the same. Bill also had a knack for giving compliments, always seeing the good in the people the crossed his path.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM on Thursday, June 10, 2021 at Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria. Chaplain John Nelson will officiate. Visitation will begin one hour before at 11:00 AM. Burial will be immediately following at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.
