He was born on September 1, 1930 in Gillespie to Harold and Eva (Mead) Johnson. He married Emma Woolsey in 1951. She survives.
Also surviving are his children, Jackie May, Terry (Debbie) Johnson, and Kevin (Kathi) Johnson; and sister Sally VanNote.
After graduating from Manuel High School, John was hired at Caterpillar at only 17. Shortly after he joined the U.S. Army serving his country in the Korean War. He worked as a medic, treating the wounded. When he returned he continued his career with Caterpillar as a Machinist and retired as a Supervisor after over 40 years in the company.
John's passions were his family and machining. He traveled abroad for missionary work, and participated in the Senior Olympics. John also enjoyed many activities including fishing, playing pool, church league dartball, being involved in the church, and his Cushman and Whizzer Scooters.
Cremation rites have been accorded. John's Memorial service will be held at Bethany Missionary Church on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at 11:00 am, with a visitation to start an hour prior at 10:00 am. Burial will take place at Swan Lake Memory Gardens.
