It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved son and brother, Eric David Scott, 30. After a courageous battle with depression and addiction in the final years of his life, Eric passed away unintentionally on November 29, 2024 at his home in Boston, MA. His journey was not always an easy one, but it was marked by his inspirational fighting spirit and his enduring capacity for hope, joy, and love.
Born on April 6, 1994, Eric grew up in Dunlap, Illinois. He graduated from the University of Illinois with bachelor’s degrees in Accounting and Psychology. He was a respected accountant, most recently working for UC Funds in Boston.
Eric was known for his compassionate heart, easy-going demeanor, and fun-loving sense of humor. To know Eric was to like him. Eric was one of a kind: loyal, brave, sensitive, hilarious, whip-smart, and an inspiring light to those of us who were blessed with knowing and loving him. He was a skilled songwriter and guitar player, and just as skilled at trash talking any opponent of his beloved Fighting Illini basketball team. Eric loved the outdoors and hiking, and he was an avid animal lover.
Eric was a wonderful son, brother, and uncle. He leaves behind a loving mother and father, Mary and Kevin Scott, sisters Kelly Scott Bowman (Tony) and Michelle Lidvall (John), and four nephews and one niece (Jaxon, Anders, Mason, Brooks, and Mary) who thought ‘Uncle E’ walked on water. He deeply cared for and loved his cat companions, Purdy and Lucky, and often said he was their Cat Daddy.
A visitation and memorial service to celebrate Eric’s life will be held on December 19, 2024 at Prospect United Methodist Church in Dunlap, Illinois (300 E Ash St., Dunlap, IL 61525). The visitation will be held at 1:00 pm with a memorial service following at 2:00 pm, followed by a meal at the church. Burial service will take place at a later date. Remmert Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, Eric's family requests donations be made to Elevate Recovery Center, where Eric made a positive impact on so many lives. Eric's memory and talent will be honored through the creation of a music and creative arts resource area to support the ongoing recovery for those struggling with substance use and mental health challenges. His life, though tragically brief, reminds us of the importance of compassion, understanding, and support for those facing inner battles.
