Dorothy A Brenton

She was born December 5, 1941 in Urbana IL to Merl and Ruth Marion (Dixon) Gillis. She was a graduate of University High School and Illinois State University where she earned a Bachelors Degree in Education. While at Illinois State she met Allan “Mike” Brenton. They were married August 23,1964 at the First Methodist Church in Urbana IL. and celebrated forty-five years together until Mike’s death in 2009.

She taught High School Math at Limestone Community High School in Bartonville IL from 1964-1969. She took a hiatus from teaching when her children were born. She returned to teaching at Peoria Christian School in 1976 where she taught Junior High and High School Math and Science and retired after 20 years.

She was a member of Bayview Baptist Church for 53 years and served as a bus route captain, choir member, piano player for youth ministries, and made buttons for the Kings Kids Ministry. Dorothy was an avid reader and loved jigsaw puzzles and after retirement worked part-time at the Washington Community Library and Remmert Funeral Home. She was also an avid Chicago Cubs fan.

She is survived by her two children, Cynthia Brenton (Washington IL) and Larry (Stacy) Brenton (Pekin IL) her grandson Drew Brenton and brother Richard (Jane) Gillis (Rochester MN) She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, John Gillis (Healdsburg CA)

Services will be held at Bayview Baptist Church in Washington IL Monday Dec 30 with a visitation at Noon and funeral service at 2 P.M. Pastor Keith Thibo will preside over the services. Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria is in charge of arrangements.

Graveside will follow at Parkview Cemetery in Peoria IL.

Memorials may be made to Illinois Central Christian School in Washington IL.
