Sharon Lynne (Wall) Slee, 73 died on July 17, 2024 at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN after a 2 year long courageous fight with ovarian cancer. Sharon was born on September 6, 1950 in Cleveland, OH to James and Muriel (Reese) Wall. She moved from Cleveland to Pittsburgh in 1962, before settling permanently in Lansing, MI in 1964. She attended Grand Ledge High School where she met the love of her life, Kenneth Slee. They graduated together in 1968. Sharon and Ken married on June 20, 1970.
Sharon worked in the Pathology Department at Sparrow Hospital until December 1972. She attended Lansing Community College and received her Human Service and Child Development degree and started her own Nationally Accredited Family Child Care business in 1979: First Friends Daycare. She became a Daycare Accreditation Validator through the National Association for Education of Young Children, presenting at state and local conferences and childcare groups. Over the course of her 27-year profession in child care, Sharon loved, influenced and prepared over 120+ children to enter kindergarten. Her impact on these children’s lives is endless and forever lasting.
Sharon was actively involved with the military life, as the leader of the Family Support & Readiness Group for the Aviation Battalion of the Michigan Army National Guard and served on the joint Michigan Family Program Advisory Council for the Michigan National Guard (Army & Air). She also served at the national level on the Army National Guard Command Sergeants Major Spouses Advisory Team and Guard Family Action Plan team, identifying the most critical family well-being issues to the National Guard Senior Leadership.
Sharon will be dearly missed by her husband of 54 years, Ken; her loving children, Kristen Slee of Rochester, MN and Steven Slee (Abigail) of Cary, NC; her three beautiful granddaughters, Addison (14) of Rochester, MN and Anna (16) and Allison (10) of Cary, NC; her siblings, James Wall (Nancy) of Tucson, AZ; Michael Wall (Marlene) of Fontana, WI, Kathy Darmer of Long View, TX as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Muriel Wall, her sister, Eileen Mayes, nephew (Scott Wall) great niece (Satori Stokes), several aunts, uncles, cousins and her beloved dogs.
Earth has lost an unbelievably amazing wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, teacher and mentor. Her loss is deeply felt by so many. We thank her for her unending love, her impact on so many lives, her ability to organize special events, her creativity and craftiness, and her thoughtfulness for so many at every holiday or special event in our lives.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 28, 2024 from 3pm until 5pm at Gorsline Runciman East Lansing Chapel, 1730 E. Grand River Ave., East Lansing. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, July 29, 2024 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church at 11am. Sharon will be laid to rest at Great Lakes National Cemetery following the services at 1:30pm.
