He spent his formative years in Valley Center and Brown City and later graduated from Michigan State (College) University in 1952 with a degree in Veterinary Medicine. He was an avid Spartans fan and loved his Michigan State University community. He met and married his wife Margaret (Warner) Muir in 1954 and was blessed with almost 38 years of marriage until her death in 1992. Together they welcomed and raised four children in Deckerville, MI. In 1993, he married Sharon (Leece) Muir and enjoyed 27 years of marriage.
He founded the Deckerville Veterinary Clinic and was most proud of seeing the practice grow from one to six veterinarians under his leadership. He also enjoyed owning two Dairy Queen restaurants.
