I feel deepest sympathies to Aida & Raja & Family.  Mona was an amazing person.  We have been friends on Facebook for the past 5 years or so.  She was very connected to everything.  I remember the education she imparted to me in high school about the Palestinian People.  I had been ignorant on the subject, but learned a lot from Mona.  She was one of my sister Drue's very best friends and I know that Drue is missing her deeply.  May God bless her family.  We all know that she is now out of pain & suffering with Jesus:)

Mona was one of the kindest , most loyal people I have ever known. She was steadfast in her beliefs. My previous post a week ago is lost somewhere so I wanted to post again about my wonderful friend.
Mona was probably the first person who greeted and befriended me when I moved to Okemos. I was very shy and lost when I arrived at my new school. She was so friendly and always interested in me as a person. When I became a single Mother, at the age of 20, she stayed my friend. She welcomed my son like a nephew or a son that she never had. She always wondered how "Joey" was doing...  she was a bright spot in my life. We had great conversations with meaning. Not silly stuff. We were both realists.  Mona cared deeply for people and especially children... I looked forward to our time together at class reunions. In her last year's it was hard to get together with her due to her health but we tried..   I was devastated when I heard she has passed on.. but happy that she,was no longer  a prisoner in a failing body. She fought a brave fight with a brave face and always tried to stay positive.  I just spoke either her about 2 weeks before she left us... We vowed our friendship would always be there for each other and we said "I love you"....  Aida Raja, Toufic, and family... You were blessed to have her as a daughter sister ,Auntie.. as I was equally blessed to call her my friend. She is deeply missed by me. I pray for comfort for you and peace that defies all understanding. May Mona,rest in eternal peace.

Mona has been friends with my daughter Drue ad our family for many years. She  was loved and appreciated and will be missed. Her smile and staying positive during many very trying times, set her apart.Special thoughts prayers and love to her mother on the loss of her Mona Lisa. We worked together several years ago at Schmidts super market in Okemos.  She was always pleasant and a joy to have her on the team at that time.  She left many good memories.

I met Mona many years ago when she worked at White Haines Optical. I always enjoyed the times we were together. She had a sweet smile for everyone and there was a light in her that death will not diminish. My sincerist sympathies to her family-such an early loss is heartbreaking.

I am so saddened by this sudden departure. As I come into work today I will miss hearing Monas voice, today and every day forward.  she was so giving and wise and I will forever be grateful for the conversations we shared.  she leaves a great impact on anyone she talks to. I am in shock hearing of this.  Mona and her family lived right next door to me when we were very young.  She was a great person back then and I know she always was a great person. To my sweet Friend,

6th through 12th grade I lived in Okemos. These are often considered some of the best years of our lives, and that could certainly be said of my life. I lived one house away from the Jildehs (as a side note, Mona's mom made the best stuffed grape leaves you'll ever find). Many of those years, I spent most of my weekends with both Mona and Raja, et al. I considered them two of my best friends. Mona was one of the nicest people I have ever met. She was years; no decades, ahead of the rest of us, with regard to life's simple questions. She seemed to understand intuitively, even in her young years, that the simple choice in life was to be happy, or be otherwise. She was smart enough to choose the former as often as she could. And she always brought that happiness, cheerfulness and upbeat attitude along with her, to share with the rest of us. Her positive mood was almost always undefeatable. Even if she was having a negative moment, or argument, with someone, I'd catch her eye and she would give a quick smile, as if to say, don't worry, this will be over in a minute. She always called me Davey. Don't know why. Nobody else did. For some reason she like the sound of it  probably placed me more in the position of a younger brother. She and Raja both felt like family to me. And they always took care of each other, Raja being the earnest protector, but Mona had her moments as well. There was the time Raja was fooling around and got two of his fingers stuck together with Crazy Glue. As he was showing my sister Tami, Mona stepped in, and with a downward thwack' of her hand Raja's fingers had their freedom again, and Mona had a satisfied smile on her face. Raja had a slight grimace of pain on his face, but there had been nothing careless in Mona's action. She had instantaneously done the math, and realized that the longer that glue had to set the worse it was going to be for her brother, so quick, decisive action was called for. And she was happy to step in, and happy with the result. The two of them played off of each other perfectly, taking turns at being the clown, then the straight man. 

We were younger than we should have been then. I like to think I've grown, but I know I'm just kidding myself. One thing for sure though is that all the times I spent with Mona and Raja were not the makings of a misspent youth. They were wonderful, formative years, filled with deep abiding friendship. I miss her terribly nowand am angry at myself for having lived so far away for so long. I missed so many opportunities to discuss this crazy thing called life. In our youth we would discuss Kahlil Gibran (she introduced me to The Prophet in 8th grade), or the meaning of the lyrics to Hotel California, or anything that seemed important as we pieced things together. She had a quick mind and wasn't ego invested in her conclusions, so she was great to talk with. Later in life, on far too infrequent visits to Michigan, I found that she still carried her great predisposition toward happiness, even with the health challenges that she faced. Her philosophy was better articulated, as you would expect, and every bit as innately wise as ever. 

She was a very kind-hearted, sweet soul, and I consider myself extremely fortunate to have spent wonderful, amazing times with her.

Good-bye my sweet Friend. Heaven just became a beautiful place, with the Grace of its newest angel.

I learned so much from Mona. She taught me little thingslike how to write my name in another languageand big thingslike what it means to be passionate and committed to causes. We grew up together, just a few houses down and across the street, and spent lots of time together and with other kids in the neighborhood. I knew she would always be my friend, no matter how much time had passed or how much we hung out together as older teens or adults. She was a remarkable, vibrant soul who loved life. I will miss her, but always carry pieces of her wisdom and strength in my heart.

Mona was the type of friend you could see once a year and it was like you talked yesterday.  No matter what bumps life threw in her path, she met it with a smile, her head held high and love in her heart.  God takes the best among us early Mona.  You will be missed.
