Marjorie Frances Wallace (91) passed away on April 7th at Hospice House of Lansing. Marjorie was born February 5, 1921 in Columbia, MO, the daughter of Laura Blanche and Hubert Peter Lauf. Marjorie grew up in Jefferson City, MO, the first child of a young law student and a school teacher. Marjorie, a football queen in high school, was swept off her feet her freshman year at Central Methodist College in Fayette, MO by her soon to be husband, Herschel, a young, talented jazz musician in his senior year.
Marjorie’s early years of married life were spent in the Pacific Northwest during WWI, then on to St. Joseph, Dearborn, East Lansing, Okemos and most recently Haslett, MI.
Homemaking, music, piano, bridge, and a love of the out-of-doors were a large part of Marjorie’s life. Marjorie taught piano for many years and was an avid reader throughout her entire life, still reading several books a week at times in her last years.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband, Herschel Lee Wallace and her brother Richard Lee Lauf. She is survived by her sons Roger (Linda) Wallace and Alan (Leah Cox) Wallace; her grand children Scott (Jen) Wallace and Mike Wallace and her great-grandson Avery (Scott and Jen).
An informal gathering to remember Marjorie and her life will be held at Wynwood of Meridian, 5346 Marsh Rd., Haslett, MI on May 24 from 2-4 PM with a brief memorial at 3 PM.
