Born March 17, 1923 in Waverly, Iowa, to Alfred and Martha.
He obtained Bachelors, Masters, and Ph.D. degrees from Iowa State University. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He started his career as a Professor at Iowa State University. He later joined the faculty of Michigan State University in 1956 as a professor of Electrical engineering, founded the MSU Computer Lab, and retired as Dean of the College of Engineering in 1988.
Dr. Von Tersch was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, LaValle and his brother Alfred. He is survived by his son Richard (Alanna) Von Tersch of Williamston; brother George (Carol) of Surprise, AZ; sister Elizabeth of Largo, FL; sister-in-law Jean Rubendall of Mesa, AZ; four grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, April 29, 2010 from 3:30-6:00 p.m. at the MSU University Club, 3435 Forest Rd., Lansing.
