Julie was born on August 8, 1966 in Howell, MI, the daughter of Reverends Alan and Marilyn DeGraw. Having lived throughout Michigan as a child, she graduated from Vassar High School and went on to earn her Bachelor's Degree from Calvin University. Subsequently, Julie furthered her education at Michigan State University and the University of Michigan, ultimately joining her father and sister in becoming a ‘Dr. DeGraw.’
Julie was exceptionally kind and caring. She dedicated her life to students, working extensively in residential life and college administration. Julie was also very active in the church, volunteered with many charities, and was a strong advocate for mental health. She accumulated friends everywhere she went due to her earnest interest in others, fun personality, and compassionate nature. She was always going to visit friends and family around the country.
Julie loved to travel. She began with family trips to England and the Holy Lands. She also traveled throughout Europe as a choir member and took part in many college work trips. More recently, she visited South Korea, a trip of a lifetime. In addition, Julie visited almost every state, often camping and hiking in National Parks. The mountains and the beach were Julie’s special places.
At home, Julie enjoyed being a hostess and beautifying the many spaces she lived. Furthermore, she was an extraordinary dog lover with many beloved rescue dogs throughout her life. Most importantly, she was the best daughter, sister, and Auntie.
Julie is survived by her father, Alan DeGraw; sister, Sharon DeGraw (Keith Briggs); nephews, Keegan and Aidan Knowles; and niece, Lydia Knowles. Julie is preceded by her mother, Marilyn DeGraw and her step-mother, Judy DeGraw.
