JOHN L. REVITTE, Professor Emeritus at Michigan State University, School of Human Resources and Labor Relations, died on Wednesday, April 20 at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor. John is survived by his wife, Diane (Smith) Revitte; daughters Rachel Babale (Aboubacar) of East Lansing and Kate Revitte (Jason Abele) of Milwaukee, and grandson, Mohamed Babale.
Born October 8, 1950 in Detroit, to June Perry Revitte and William Raymond Revitte. John graduated from Seaholm High School in Birmingham, Michigan in 1968 and from the University of Michigan in 1972. In 1976 he received a Master of Science in Labor Studies from the University of Massachusetts.
John started his MSU career in 1977 in the Labor Education Program in the School of Human Resources and Labor Relations. He served as MSU's Faculty Grievance Official from 2004 through 2013. In retirement, John continued numerous research and writing projects, and conducted oral history interviews which have been contributed to the MSU Vincent Voice Library.
He enjoyed connecting with friends and family, gardening, fishing, golfing, and talking politics, sports and history. John will be best remembered by his loved ones as a wonderful father, husband, teacher, master gardener, and a life-long seeker of knowledge with a passion for social justice, equality, workers’ rights, peace, and love for the world.
Visitation will be at Gorsline-Runciman in East Lansing on Friday, April 29, from 5 – 8 p.m. On Saturday, April 30, at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in East Lansing, visitation will be at 10 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m.
