Jean Helen Collins (Stanley)

Born to Dr. Arthur L. Stanley and Helen Stanley (Brooks), Jean grew up in East Lansing and graduated from East Lansing High School (class of 1963), from which she maintained close friends. As a young girl, Jean was very involved in figure skating and singing. She could be found skating at MSU's Demonstration Hall and singing in the Michigan Youth Chorale. The Chorale sang at local venues and most notably, Ann Arbor’s Hill Auditorium and a tour of Europe. After high school, Jean pursued an education in medical secretary/administrative assistant at both Highland Park College and Michigan State University.

After marriage and having two sons, Jean enjoyed a 19-year career at what was then known as Lansing General Hospital as the Executive Assistant to the President and as the hospital's property manager. Later, Jean held similar positions at Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Sarasota, Florida. After receiving her real-estate license, she sold real-estate successfully until her move back to Michigan. She sold real-estate in the mid-Michigan area until her retirement in 2018.

Many mornings Jean could be found patronizing local establishments for her favorite blueberry muffins and was on a first name basis with many a drive-thru clerk. Jean will surely be missed by Mania, her Maltese Shitzu.

Jean is survived by her sons Kevin (Julie) Collins (grand-daughter Samantha) of DeWitt, MI and Jim (Wendy) Collins (grand-daughter Emily) of Fort Wayne, IN; brothers Bob (Nubia) Stanley of Miami, FL and Dr. Alonso (Stefeni) Collar of Ada, MI; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents Dr. Arthur L. Stanley and Helen Stanley (Brooks), brothers Art Stanley and Chuck Stanley, step-mother Elia Stanley (Collar), sister Alina Collar, and nephew Alonso "Bonz" Collar.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Capital Area Humane Society or the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc. in memory of Jean.

A visitation for Jean will be held Thursday, December 14 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, 1730 E. Grand River Ave. East Lansing, MI 48823. A funeral service will be held Friday, December 15 at 11:00 AM with a visitation one hour prior at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, 1730 E. Grand River Ave. East Lansing, MI 48823.
