Born in Song Mao, Vietnam, on August 21, 1942, to Sy Voong, Jack emigrated to the United States in 1980 with his beloved wife, Lisa, and their five sons. On April 6, 1970, he married the love of his life, Lisa Sy, with whom he shared a lifelong journey.
Jack was a dedicated and hard-working man who spent his life providing for his family. In 1991, he realized his dream of opening his own restaurant, J.P. Express, in Haslett, MI. He was passionate about cooking, and his love for food was matched only by his love of gardening. Jack’s strong work ethic and devotion to his family were evident in all that he did.
He is survived by his wife, Lisa Phang; sons, Hung, Vay, Tri, Hinh, Phong; and daughter, Mary. Jack’s legacy also lives on through his grandchildren, Lily, Isaac, Ivy, Livia, and Evan.
A private funeral service will be held on April 14, 2025, to honor his memory.
