Ella Rose (Sorge) Simmons, known by family and friends as Rose, was born in Flint, Michigan in the year 1931. Rose passed away peacefully on Saturday, 21 December 2024, in Williamston, Michigan, at the age of 93.
Rose married Robert Simmons in Flint at the age of 16 in 1947. Together, they built a life filled with love and adventure - residing briefly in Flint, Midland and Holt before settling down in Dewitt Township. Rose enjoyed travel and visited Hawaii four times - three of which were made possible through her dedicated service as president of the J. W. Sexton High School Band Parents Association for three consecutive years. Known for her warm and friendly nature, Rose had a remarkable ability to make friends wherever she went.
She is survived by her son Ryan Simmons and daughter-in-law Sri Simmons, as well as the children fostered by Ryan and Sri. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who will cherish her memory. Rose was predeceased by her beloved husband Robert Simmons; her parents John and Leona Sorge of Flint; and her brother Alfred Sorge of Mount Morris, Michigan.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 27, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, located at 1730 E. Grand River Ave, East Lansing, Mi 48823. The family will begin receiving guests at 11:00 a.m., with burial to follow at North Eagle Cemetery in Eagle, Michigan.
Rose's kindness and vibrant spirit touched all who knew her. May her memory bring comfort and inspiration to those she leaves behind.
